HC Deb 17 November 1938 vol 341 cc1023-4
7. Mr. Mander

asked the Minister of Labour whether it is proposed to carry into effect the recommendations of the report of the Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee of February, 1936, on raising the remuneration limit for insurance of non-manual workers from £250 to £400 a year?

Mr. E. Brown

I have nothing to add to previous replies on this subject.

Mr. Mender

Is it not possible to indicate a date when a decision is likely to be reached?

Mr. Brown

Not now. I am receiving a deputation from the National Federation of Professional Officers this week.

Mr. Lawson

Would it not be wise to carry these recommendations into effect? If there is any further unemployment for these people there will surely be a public outcry, and it would be better to ensure against it

Mr. Brown

That is a matter of opinion.

Mr. Graham White

Cannot the right hon. Gentleman do something to expedite a decision in this matter, because it has been under discussion for nearly two years?
