HC Deb 15 November 1938 vol 341 c660
15. Mr. Day

asked the President of the Board of Trade the value and destination of under-water weapons licensed for export for the 12 months ended at the last convenient date?

Mr. Stanley

Licences for the export to foreign countries of mines, torpedoes and depth charges and submarine equipment, etc., were issued during the 12 months ended 31st October, 1938, to a total value of £404,854. It would be contrary to the public interest to publish the destinations for which licences have been issued for the export of war material of a particular class or description.

Mr. Day

Is any undertaking asked for or received from all the countries to which this war material is exported that they will not re-export it to, countries at war?

Mr. Stanley

All inquiries are made before the licences are issued.

Mr. Day

Is an undertaking received?

Mr. Stanley

Perhaps the hon. Gentleman will put that question down.
