HC Deb 15 November 1938 vol 341 cc657-8
7. Mr. Bellenger

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has noted the refusal of the packing companies to give facilities to the committee of inquiry into the Anglo-Argentine meat trade to collect evidence; and whether he proposes to take any action to implement the recommendations of the committee?

The President of the Board of Trade (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

I am aware that the majority of the companies concerned were unwilling to furnish the committee with certain figures for which they had asked. The committee's recommendations cover a wide field, and are in the main addressed to the Argentine Government. So far as they concern His Majesty's Government, they are under consideration.

Mr. Bellenger

Are His Majesty's Government still in consultation with the Argentine Government regarding the recommendations contained in these reports?

Mr. Stanley

Yes, Sir.
