HC Deb 14 November 1938 vol 341 c499
69. Mr. Crowder

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that bakers in the London area are unable to carry out the recommendations of the Food Council that the price of the four-pound loaf should be ½d. cheaper if sold over the counter than if delivered to the house; and whether it is proposed to make any arrangements to settle this difference?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade (Mr. Cross)

The principal organisations representing the bakers in the London area have stated that their members cannot see their way to carry out the recommendation of the Food Council in respect of the price of bread sold over the counter. I understand that the representatives of the bakers are seeing the chairman of the Food Council shortly to discuss the question further.
