§ 57. Mr. R. Robinsonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education what steps have been taken by his Department to facilitate the spread-over of school holidays?
Mr. LindsayI am sending my hon. Friend a copy of a memorandum which the Board have addressed to local education authorities on this matter. In accordance with the arrangements there described, children will be able to accompany their parents on their annual holidays should they fall in school term time, without any consequential loss of grant to the authority. Further, the Board have requested the university examining bodies to arrange their certificate examinations in 1940 to take place so far as possible in the first fortnight in June, thereby leaving the rest of that month and July, August and September available for a spread-over of the holidays of pupils taking those examinations.
