HC Deb 03 November 1938 vol 340 cc368-9
49. Mr. G. Strauss

asked the Home Secretary whether His Majesty's factory inspectors have now completed their report of the serious accident that occurred in the Eldorado Ice Cream factory, Lambeth; and what action is being taken to prevent the recurrence of such an accident and consequent loss of life?

Sir S. Hoare

This matter was very fully investigated by the Factory Department and the works will be further visited to see that the further precautions contemplated are being carried out. These consist in the main of extensive alterations of the plant designed to obviate the risk of a similar occurrence in future, and as additional precautions the firm are arranging for the staff to be trained in fire drill and for other improvements in the arrangements for evacuating workrooms in the event of an emergency.
