HC Deb 31 May 1938 vol 336 cc1826-7
47. Mr. Kirby

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is now willing to set up an impartial inquiry into the claim of ex-service civil servants to pension rights?

Captain Wallace

As stated in his reply of 21st October last to my hon. Friend the Member for Chatham (Captain Plugge) my right hon. Friend is unable to modify the decision contained in his reply to the question by the hon Member for Ince (Mr. G. Macdonald) on 27th July last that no useful purpose would be served by a further inquiry into this question.

Mr. Kirby

Does the right hon. and gallant Gentleman clearly understand that by that decision ex-service men who served in the War and who are now serving in the Civil Service are at a financial disadvantage for all time as compared with those who did not serve in the War and who have joined the Civil Service since?

Captain Wallace

I think that if the hon. Gentleman will look at the reply to which I referred, he will see that the reasons for the decision were very clearly set out.
