HC Deb 31 May 1938 vol 336 c1809
12. Mr. Shinwell

asked the President of the Board of Trade why the new Board of Trade regulations in respect of crews' accommodation on foreign-going vessels are not being applied to all vessels engaged in the coasting trade within home-trade limits?

Mr. Stanley

The new Instructions apply to vessels registered in the United Kingdom, whether engaged on foreign-going voyages or in the home and coasting trades. I am sending the hon. Member a copy of the Instructions.

Mr. Shinwell

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the regulations are not being complied with in coasting vessels?

Mr. Stanley

No, Sir. If the hon. Gentleman has any cases in mind, I shall be glad to discuss them.

Mr. Shinwell

Will the right hon. Gentleman make inquiries in the meantime?

Mr. Stanley

It will be easier, if the hon. Gentleman has particular cases, if he will refer them to me, and I will immediately see whether they are substantiated or not.
