HC Deb 25 May 1938 vol 336 cc1189-90
22. Commander Bower

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the price to be paid by the Admiralty to the Portsmouth City Council for the site for a proposed new signal school?

The First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr. Duff Cooper)

The site proposed for the new signal school at Portsmouth has been valued at £72,000, but the price has not yet been finally agreed.

Commander Bower

Can we have some assurance from the First Lord that the Admiralty will not pay something like £2,000 an acre for a site which has previously been used for allotments?

Mr. Cooper

The Admiralty will be guided as to the price they pay by the advice of experts as to the real value of the land.
