HC Deb 12 May 1938 vol 335 c1717
81. Sir N. Grattan-Doyle

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the amount of revenue collected by local authorities in licence duties on armorial bearings and the cost of collecting such duties?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

The receipts by local authorities for the year ended 31st March, 1937 (the latest year for which figures are available) were £32,840. The cost to the Post Office of issuing licences cannot be precisely estimated, as the work is largely bound up with the issue of other kinds of local taxation licences, but on a pro rata basis it may be put at £ 500 per annum. This does not include any cost which may be incurred by local authorities on inspection and enforcement, but this cost is believed to be negligible.
