§ 9. Mr. Dayasked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs particulars of the advances made to the Swaziland tobacco growers, including native growers, in respect of the annual crop delivered by them to the local co-operative tobacco society for disposal for the 12 months ended at the last convenient date; the amount of the funds for these advances that have been provided by loans from the administration; and also of the terms of the appointment of one of the directors of the society who is appointed by the resident commissioner?
Mr. M. MacDonaldI have not the details referred to in the first and last parts of the question, but I am asking the High Commissioner for the desired information. As to the second part, it has been the practice during recent years for the administration to advance to the Swaziland Cooperative Tobacco Company a seasonal loan of £8,000 to finance the annual crop when ready for delivery.
§ Mr. DayHas any application been made by the native chief or his council for an increase in the grant to tobacco growers?
