HC Deb 03 May 1938 vol 335 cc674-5
6. Mr. Day

asked the President of the Board of Trade the quantity of German wheat imported into this country, registered as consigned from Germany, for the 12 months ended the last convenient date; and the comparable figure for the preceding 12 months?

Captain Wallace

During the 12 months ended March, 1938, the total quantity of wheat imported into the United Kingdom and registered as consigned from Germany was 376,000 cwts. The corresponding figure for the 12 months ended March, 1937, was 47,000 cwts. The German trade returns indicate that this wheat was not of German origin.

Mr. Day

Can the Minister say whether this wheat is procured in Germany at a very much less price than that at which it can be obtained here?

Captain Wallace

Not without notice.
