HC Deb 02 May 1938 vol 335 c490
3. Mr. Day

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he will state the silver holding in the currency reserve held by the Government of India at the last convenient date?

Lord Stanley

Since 1st April, 1935, the management of the Indian currency has been in the hands of the Reserve Bank of India, and the Government of India, therefore, no longer hold the currency reserve. The silver holding in the Issue Department of the Reserve Bank amounted on 22nd April, 1938, to 587,000,000 rupees.

Mr. Day

Is that an increase on the previous 12 months?

Lord Stanley

I will make inquiries.
