HC Deb 22 March 1938 vol 333 cc997-8
60. Lieut.-Colonel Wickham

asked the Home Secretary what progress is being made in organising air-raid precautions in the county of Somerset?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

The county council, which has been in close touch with the Air-Raid Precautions Department since its inception, has carried out a considerable volume of preliminary work. A county air-raid precautions officer was appointed over a year ago. The county has now been divided into eight areas for the organisation of its air-raid precautions work, and approval has been given to the appointment of an organiser for each of these areas. It may be expected that the county will now make rapid progress with its arrangements.
