HC Deb 21 March 1938 vol 333 cc843-4
61. Mr. Parker

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that in certain cases workmen are obliged, in order to obtain their rights under the Workmen's Compensation Acts, to issue proceedings against insurance companies, and that companies settle the cases just before they come into court, which leaves the workmen no right to recover the costs to which they have been put; and whether he will introduce amending legislation to prevent this abuse?

Mr. Lloyd

My right hon. Friend has received no complaints about cases of this kind, and he would prefer not to express an opinion without further information. If the hon. Member will send particulars of cases which he has in mind, my right hon. Friend will be glad to consider them.
