HC Deb 21 March 1938 vol 333 cc827-8
7. Mr. Noel-Baker

asked the Prime Minister whether Lord Perth's conversations with the Italian Government are still proceeding; and whether he can make a statement on their progress?

20. Mr. J. J. Davidson

asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement to the House with regard to the progress, up to date, of the British-Italian talks?

The Prime Minister

The conversations are continuing and His Majesty's Ambassador at Rome has had several interviews with the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs at which progress has been made.

Mr. Noel-Baker

Has any progress been made with regard to the matters to which the right hon. Gentleman attached such importance on 21st February, namely, the evacuation of all foreign forces from Spain?

The Prime Minister

That is a question for the Non-intervention Committee.

Mr. Noel-Baker

Is it not a fact that the Prime Minister said that such an arrangement would be a condition of any agreement with the Italian Government?

The Prime Minister

We have not made any agreement yet.

Mr. J. J. Davidson

Is the signing of the trade pact between Italy and Great Britain the result of those conversations?

The Prime Minister

No, Sir.

Mr. Hannah

Do such questions help international relations?
