HC Deb 17 March 1938 vol 333 cc737-41

Motion made, and Question proposed, That 119,000 Officers, Seamen, Boys and Royal Marines be employed for the Sea Service, together with 913 for the Royal Marine Police, borne on the books of His Majesty's Ships, at the Royal Marine Divisions, and at Royal Air Force Establishments, for the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1939.

10.52 p.m.

Mr. Alexander

I beg to move, to reduce the Vote by 100 men.

I do this not because we are opposed to the provision of a naval force but because we object to the general policy of the Government.

Question put, That a number, not exceeding 118,900 Officers, Seamen, Boys and Royal Marines be employed for the said Service.

The Committee divided: Ayes, 115; Noes, 223.
