HC Deb 17 March 1938 vol 333 cc567-8
15. Mr. Whitley

asked the Minister of Labour whether it is the practice of employment exchanges to refuse to issue green cards to applicants on the grounds that they are issued only to fit men; and, if so, whether he is prepared to modify those instructions in the case of men in receipt of light work compensation?

Mr. E. Brown

The practice is not as stated. Applicants who are fit for light work only, including applicants in receipt of partial compensation, are given the green introduction cards for vacancies for which they appear suitable.

Mr. Whiteley

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that men in receipt of light work compensation and ex-soldiers in receipt of pension have been refused green cards on the grounds that they are not fit men?

Mr. Brown

My information is the other way, but if the hon. Member has any new particulars which he can give me, I will look into them.
