HC Deb 17 March 1938 vol 333 cc583-4
48. Mr. Mander

asked the Prime Minister what reply has been sent to the French Government in response to their notification to the British Government of their determination to adhere resolutely to their treaty obligations with regard to Czechoslovakia?

The Prime Minister

No reply was required by the French Government to this notification. I have already stated that His Majesty's Government are giving very close attention to the issues involved.

Mr. Mander

Does the Prime Minister realise that while he is trying to make up his mind the German troops are on the Austro-Czech frontier, which they can cross at any moment, and will he not try to give a decision on behalf of this country which can alone preserve the peace of the world?

Viscountess Astor

Join the Army.

Mr. Noel-Baker

In the event of armed conflict arising in Western Europe as a result of unprovoked aggression in violation of the Covenant, will His Majesty's Government fulfil their obligation to France under the Covenant and under the Locarno Pact?
