§ 81. Sir John Mellorasked the Secretary for Mines with regard to the second guarantee given by the Central Council of Colliery Owners to the Government the authority upon which the Central Council undertakes that a committee of investigation will deal with a complaint within a reasonable time?
§ The Secretary for Mines (Captain Crookshank)The part of the assurance to which my hon. Friend draws attention is not intended to bind the committee of investigation, nor could it do so. It merely sets out the circumstances in which the assurance will be operative, and, in order to ensure that the protection afforded to consumers is adequate and speedy, I agreed with the Central Council, to inform the committees of investigation that every effort should be made to deal with price complaints as quickly as possible.
