HC Deb 17 March 1938 vol 333 cc578-9
83. Mr. T. Henderson

asked the Minister of Transport whether he proposes to give effect at an early date to the recommendations of the Transport Advisory Council in favour of extending the periods of validity of carriers' licences issued under the Road Traffic Acts?

The Minister of Transport (Mr. Burgin)

As I intimated in this House on 16th February, I intend to make the necessary regulations with as little delay as possible, but under Section 26 of the Road and Rail Traffic Act, 1933, I consult representative organisations as to the form and terms of the regulations themselves.

Mr. Holdsworth

Will the Minister re consider his decision and give a longer time, in view of the decision made by the Appeal Tribunal in the case I raised yesterday?

Mr. Burgin

I think the matters are entirely separate. These regulations are of general operation. There are some questions of fees and forms outstanding, but I propose to put the regulations in force. They are a necessary reform.
