asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will sympathetically consider applications for naturalisation from Austrians resident in this country who wish not to become German citizens?

I am bound by certain statutory provisions in dealing with applications for certificates of naturalisation, but my hon. Friend may be sure that every case will be carefully considered on its merits.
