HC Deb 16 March 1938 vol 333 c395
19. Mr. T. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has yet received a report from Palestine with regard to the position of those Jewish residents in the suburbs of Tel Aviv which come under the municipal administration of Jaffa; and whether any remedial action is being taken with regard to their position?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

On the general question I have nothing to add to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member on 23rd February, and as regards certain individual cases, I am still awaiting the report for which I have asked the High Commissioner.

Mr. Williams

Do we understand that the High Commissioner is examining these complaints that have been made by the people resident there?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

Yes. I asked him to do that.

20. Mr. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the social conditions in the Karton quarter of Jaffa; and what action has been taken to improve the housing, draining, and lighting services?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

I have no information about the conditions to which the hon. Member refers, but I am asking the High Commissioner for a report.
