HC Deb 15 March 1938 vol 333 c183
11. Mr. Burke

asked the President of the Board of Trade the average price of cocoa per ton on the London market in the months of January, 1937, April, 1937, October, 1937, and January, 1938?

Mr. Stanley

The average price of Accra cocoa in shillings per cwt. on the London market, as quoted in "The Grocer," with duty added, was 66.47 in January, 1937, 59.54 in April, 1937, 40.32 in October, 1937, and 39.07 in January, 1938.

Mr. Burke

Am I to understand from these figures that 66s. means so much per ton, and will the right hon. Gentleman bring these figures to the notice of his colleague at the Colonial Office, who told the House last week that the price was £23 per ton.

Mr. Stanley

I have given the average price of African cocoa in shillings per cwt. I am afraid I had to give it in that form because the form in which it is usually quoted in statistics in this country is in prices per cwt.

Mr. Burke

Will the right hon. Gentleman bring these prices whether in terms of cwts. or in tons, to the notice of his colleague at the Colonial Office who last week said it was £23 per ton?
