HC Deb 08 March 1938 vol 332 c1695
25. Major Neven-Spence

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether the Herring Board has considered the representations of the German importers with reference to the curing of herring during May, the freshing of herring during May, and the starting date for herring fishing in Shetland; and what reply has been returned?

Mr. Elliot

I am informed that, apart from a statement that German importers do not propose to accept herring cured before 15th June, the matters referred to in the question have not been the subject of representations by these importers to the board. The question of an agreed starting date for curing is now the subject of discussion between the board and interests affected in Germany.
