HC Deb 30 June 1938 vol 337 c2130
87. Rear-Admiral Beamish

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the publication, in a condensed form, of the British documents on the origins of the War, thereby enabling a much wider study and understanding than is possible from the 10 or more volumes now published by the Stationery Office?

The Prime Minister

I appreciate the motive which has led my hon. and gallant Friend to make this suggestion, but I am inclined to think that the value of this publication lies in its completeness and in the fact that it contains all the important political despatches, etc., of the period covered; and that this value would be seriously impaired by any process of condensation.

Mr. McGovern

Cannot the reasons for the Great War be given in one sentence —the economic rivalry of capitalism?
