HC Deb 30 June 1938 vol 337 cc2128-9
84. Mr. Mander

asked the Prime Minister the nature of the proposals for the establishment of a four-Power pact between Great Britain, France, Germany and Italy in substitution for the League of Nations contemplated by the Government; and whether this will involve the ending of the Franco-Soviet pact?

Mr. Butler

His Majesty's Government do not contemplate any proposals of the nature suggested by the hon. Member.

Mr. Mander

Is not this the policy stated in the now famous Driscoll dispatch to the "Montreal Daily Star," which is so well authenticated; and do I understand the hon. Gentleman now to repudiate that policy?

Mr. Butler

The hon. Member had better understand what I said, namely, that His Majesty's Government do not contemplate any proposals of the nature suggested by the hon. Member.
