asked the President of the Board of Trade the total value of fish landed direct by British vessels in the last year for which statistics are available and also the value of the importation of fish from foreign countries?

During the year 1937, the value of fish landed direct in the United Kingdom by British fishing vessels was £15,934,000, and the value of fish imported into the United Kingdom from foreign countries was £8,335,000. The latter figure includes canned and preserved fish as well as fish brought by foreign vessels from the fishing grounds.
