§ 5. Mr. Arthur Hendersonasked the Prime Minister whether the British representative in Mexico City has now reported to His Majesty's Government; and whether an attempt is to be made to settle the differences between His Majesty's Government and the Mexican Government?
§ Mr. ButlerYes, Sir. His Majesty's Government are most anxious to effect a fair and reasonable settlement of their differences with the Mexican Government resulting from the expropriation of the British-controlled oil properties. Unfortunately, however, the attitude of the Mexican Government, culminating in the suspension of diplomatic relations, has so far precluded such a settlement.
§ Mr. HendersonDo the Government intend to make contact with the Mexican Government, either directly or indirectly, with a view to securing a settlement?
§ Mr. ButlerI think we must hope that the Mexican Government will modify their own attitude in the matter.
