HC Deb 21 June 1938 vol 337 c892
58. Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has any statement to make regarding the numerous complaints which have been and are being made to the various authorities responsible for public health in local authorities and in the Government with regard to the urgent need for adequate and safe water supplies in the Western Isles, especially in those districts served only by contaminated surface wells?

Mr. Wedderburn

I regret that I am not in a position to add to the replies given to previous questions by the hon. Member on the subject of water supplies in the Western Isles.

Mr. MacMillan

Is the Under-Secretary aware that very often the water supplies that are contaminated are the source of outbreaks such as are mentioned in the question, and that it is a matter of extreme public importance that we should have some assurance that the Scottish Office is really busy on this question?

Mr. Wedderburn

I am aware that there are many defective water supplies in many parts of the Highlands.
