§ 4. Mr. Ridleyasked the Secretary for Mines whether he will issue a White Paper outlining the steps the Government propose to take to implement the recommendations of the Falmouth Committee?
§ Captain CrookshankNo, Sir; there is no need for a White Paper in view of the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 18th May, in reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Rush cliffe (Mr. Assheton), to which I would refer the hon. Member.
§ Mr. RidleyDoes the hon. and gallant Gentleman recognise that his general reply gives no indication of detailed Government policy, and, in any event, will there be an opportunity for the House to discuss the report, either on the basis of the report itself or on a White Paper, in relation to legislation?
§ Captain CrookshankThe last question must not be addressed to me; as to the first, no doubt the hon. Gentleman has studied Clause 2 of the Finance Bill.
§ Mr. DaltonWould the Minister read the very valuable report just issued by the Labour party on the subject of oil from coal?
§ Captain CrookshankI cannot say how valuable it is until I have read the contents.
§ Mr. DaltonWill the hon. and gallant Gentleman read the contents? We will send him a free copy.
