HC Deb 15 June 1938 vol 337 cc213-4
40. Mr. E. Smith

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will consult the Central Electricity Board for the purpose of considering future requirements and developments of power supply, the need to work to a plan, and adopt a policy of giving orders for plant to industry when manufacturers mostly require the orders?

Mr. Burgin

As the hon. Member will be aware, considerable time is required for manufacturing, installing and bringing into use large additional units of generating plant for the purposes of the grid system. It is the practice of the Central Electricity Board to keep under constant review the prospective growth of demand on the system and to work to a plan based upon such growth; and in so doing to bear in mind the considerations to which the hon. Member has drawn attention.
