HC Deb 14 June 1938 vol 337 cc24-5
40. Sir Percy Hurd

asked the Minister of Agriculture when he proposes to introduce a Bill to amend the Wheat Act, in order to ensure a standard price in line with current costs of production?

44. Lieut.-Colonel Acland-Troyte

asked the Minister of Agriculture when he proposes to introduce a Measure to amend the Wheat Act?

Mr. Ramsbotham

I have been asked to reply. My right hon. Friend is afraid that, in view of the pressure on Parliamentary time, it will not be possible to secure the passage into law before the Summer Recess of legislation amending the Wheat Act, 1932. Legislation proposing amendments to deal with a number of outstanding problems, including provision for periodical reviews of the standard wheat price, will, however, be introduced as soon as possible after the Recess.

Sir P. Hurd

Will my hon. Friend say whether this legislation is likely to become law this Session?

Mr. Ramsbotham

I cannot give any undertaking of that kind.

Lieut.-Colonel Acland-Troyte

Will my hon. Friend see that any Bill that is introduced on this subject is made retrospective?
