§ 40. Sir Percy Hurdasked the Minister of Agriculture when he proposes to introduce a Bill to amend the Wheat Act, in order to ensure a standard price in line with current costs of production?
§ 44. Lieut.-Colonel Acland-Troyteasked the Minister of Agriculture when he proposes to introduce a Measure to amend the Wheat Act?
§ Mr. RamsbothamI have been asked to reply. My right hon. Friend is afraid that, in view of the pressure on Parliamentary time, it will not be possible to secure the passage into law before the Summer Recess of legislation amending the Wheat Act, 1932. Legislation proposing amendments to deal with a number of outstanding problems, including provision for periodical reviews of the standard wheat price, will, however, be introduced as soon as possible after the Recess.
§ Sir P. HurdWill my hon. Friend say whether this legislation is likely to become law this Session?
§ Mr. RamsbothamI cannot give any undertaking of that kind.
§ Lieut.-Colonel Acland-TroyteWill my hon. Friend see that any Bill that is introduced on this subject is made retrospective?
