HC Deb 01 June 1938 vol 336 c2033
41. Mr. Day

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies particulars of the number of British troops that are at present stationed in Trinidad; and what changes have been made in this force during the previous 12 months?

Mr. M. MacDonald

There are no British troops stationed in Trinidad. The detachment of five officers and 130 other ranks of the Sherwood Foresters which was sent to Trinidad as a special precautionary measure in November, 1937, was withdrawn in March, 1938.

Mr. Day

Are we to understand that there are no troops being sent from Bermuda?

Mr. MacDonald

That is the meaning of the words I. used.

Mr. A. Bevan

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell us whether a private volunteer force has been armed in Trinidad?

Mr. MacDonald

I should like to have notice of that question.
