HC Deb 27 July 1938 vol 338 c3074
2. Mr. Mander

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the advisability of making representations to the German Government on the subject of their communication to the Swiss Government, arising from the decision of the Council of the League of Nations in respect of her obligations under Article 16 of the Covenant, suggesting that her neutrality now involves, so far as opposition to Nazi ideas are concerned, Press consorship and permission for the development of the Nazi parties and Gestapo in Switzerland?

Mr. Butler

I am not aware that any such communication has been addressed to the Swiss Government. This question, if I understand the hon. Member correctly, is not one in which His Majesty's Government could intervene.

Mr. Mander

May I ask whether the Government accept the German definition of neutrality as outlined in the question?

Mr. Butler

I found some difficulty in finding out what the hon. Member had in mind.

Mr. Mander

May I call the hon. Member's attention to the communication to which I refer?

Mr. Butler

I will certainly further investigate the hon. Member's elucidation of his question.
