HC Deb 27 July 1938 vol 338 cc3083-4
25. Mr. David Adams

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the assistance approved of £45,815, in the year ended March, 1936, for agricultural development in the Colonies from the Colonial Development Fund is to be devoted mainly to the assistance of native or European agriculture, or to what extent to the assistance of each?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I am not quite certain how the hon. Member has arrived at the total of £45,815, but it appears to include schemes relating to a variety of territories to a number of which the antithesis between European and native agriculture is inapplicable. In the remainder, it is impossible to determine the relation between the benefits derived by the two sections of the population, both of whom will gain.

Mr. Adams

May I take it that there will be no discrimination between the non-European and the European population in the disposal of these funds?

Mr. MacDonald

Certainly, there will be no discrimination whatever.
