83. Mr. Robert Gibson

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many owners of shipping registered at Greenock there were on 31st December, 1913; what was the registered tonnage owned; what personnel was carried; and what were the corresponding figures for 1915, 1925 and 1935?

As the answer contains a number of figures, I will, with the hon. and learned Member's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the answer:

The net registered tonnage of the ships registered at Greenock on the dates referred to were as follow:

31st December, 1913 … 248,827
31st December, 1915 … 251,662
31st December, 1925 … 202,356
31st December, 1935 … 99,841

The further information desired could not be obtained without a detailed examination of voluminous records in the Department, and the cost of such an investigation would not, I fear, be justified.
