HC Deb 20 July 1938 vol 338 c2199
72. Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas Moore

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the fact that London omnibus men have no superannuation scheme in operation; and whether, in view of the public service these men perform, he will make representations to the London Passenger Transport Board to formulate a contributory scheme for this purpose?

Mr. Burgin

The Board inform me that they have no contributory superannuation scheme for their weekly paid omnibus men and that they could not contemplate introducing such a scheme for their wages staff at this time as they are without the necessary financial resources. The Board give certain ex gratia pensions and grants to weekly paid staff.

Sir T. Moore

Is my right hon. Friend aware that these are the only men employed in a semi-public organisation who have no superannuation scheme, and will he press that point upon the Board and encourage them to take the steps which I have outlined?
