HC Deb 20 July 1938 vol 338 c2177
21. Mr. Craven-Ellis

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the usual guardship will be anchored off Cowes during the regatta this year; and whether he is aware that the presence of this ship is an important feature of the regatta and much appreciated by the public?

The First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr. Duff Cooper)

The guardship to which the hon. Member refers is His Majesty's guardship, which is only present at Cowes when His Majesty attends the regatta.

Captain Peter Macdonald

Is it not a fact that such ships do attend regattas, and will my right hon. Friend consider sending one?

Mr. Cooper

If the authorities responsible for the preparation and the arrangements of a regatta ask the Admiralty to send a ship, every effort is made to meet their wishes, but no such request has so far been received from Cowes.
