HC Deb 18 July 1938 vol 338 c1798
47. Mr. Robert Gibson

asked the Prime Minister whether he will give the House an opportunity to discuss the Motion standing on the Order Paper in the name of the hon. Member for Greenock relative to the appointment of justices of the peace in Scotland?

[That, in the opinion of this House, it is desirable that the appointment of Justices of the Peace in Scotland should be transferred from the Lord High Chancellor of England to the Secretary of State for Scotland on the advice of the appropriate advisory committees.]

The Prime Minister

In view of the state of public business, I can hold out no hope of time being found for the discussion of the Motion standing in the name of the hon. and learned Member.

Mr. Gibson

Does the Prime Minister not think that he would get considerable support for this Motion among the Members of his own party?
