HC Deb 14 July 1938 vol 338 c1515
61. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the multiplicity of examinations and examining bodies relative to the training and professional status of medical practitioners, he will consult with the British Medical Association and other medical and surgical organisations as to the coordination and simplification of such training, with a view to considering the institution of a State medical examination and establishment of a State medical training hospital?

The Minister of Health (Mr. Elliot)

As my Noble Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, who replies for the Lord President of the Council, and to whom this question is appropriate, is absent, I have undertaken to reply on his behalf. My Noble Friend is afraid that there is no present prospect of the introduction of legislation which would be necessary for this purpose.
