§ 69. Mr. A. Jenkinsasked the Minister of Transport whether he is now in a position to make a statement with regard to the construction of a bridge over the Severn river?
§ Mr. BurginI regret that I am not yet in a position to make a statement.
§ Mr. JenkinsAs this matter has been under the consideration of the Government for a very long time, can the right hon. Gentleman indicate when people who are so much interested in this bridge, particularly in South Wales and the West of England, can expect a decision?
§ Mr. QuibellHas the right hon. Gentleman also under consideration the Humber Bridge?
§ Mr. BurginI am afraid I am not in a position to give a date on which I can make a statement on this matter. I appreciate the interest of the House in the proposal. It is one of three major bridge proposals which are being considered together. All I can say is that I will make the statement as soon as I am in a position to do so.
§ Mr. JenkinsCan the right hon. Gentleman indicate when we can expect this statement, or will he be prepared to receive another deputation from the local authorities interested?
§ Mr. BurginI do not wish to trouble the local authorities to send a further deputation if the matter is awaiting a decision. I will devote further attention to the matter in view of the hon. Gentleman's observations and see whether it is possible to expedite making a statement.
§ Mr. Morgan JonesCan we have a statement before the House rises for the Recess?
§ Mr. BurginI will endeavour to make some statement between now and then.
§ Mr. Robert GibsonWill the statement embrace all three propositions, including the Forth Bridge?
