HC Deb 11 July 1938 vol 338 c918
53. Mr. Hulbert

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is now in a position to announce the name of the new Director-General of the British Broadcasting Corporation?

Sir W. Womersley

No, Sir. I understand that this matter is still under consideration by the governors of the corporation?

Mr. Hulbert

In view of the importance of the appointment, can my hon. Friend say whether it will be made within three or four weeks?

Sir W. Womersley

I am very pleased to be able to say that I cannot give any information whatever so that I cannot be held responsible for the statements that have appeared in the Press, but I am confident that the Governors are dealing with the matter as expeditiously as possible.

Mr. De la Bére

Can my hon. Friend say what is arresting progress? Cannot they make up their own mind?
