HC Deb 06 July 1938 vol 338 cc370-1
35. Mr. Lunn

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, with regard to the proposed Royal Commission on the West Indies, whether he can yet state the personnel of the Commission and also the terms of reference; and whether, in particular, constitutional and franchise questions will be included?

43. Mr. Hepworth

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is yet in a position to indicate the composition of the Royal Commission which is to investigate the economic and other conditions in the West Indian colonies?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I am not yet in a position to make a statement on this matter.

Mr. Lunn

If I put down a question a fortnight to-day, will the right hon. Gentleman be able to answer it? I think he ought to answer it before we rise for the Recess. And may I ask whether, when drafting the terms of reference, he will consider the last part of my question?

Mr. MacDonald

I will certainly consider that matter. I agree it is important that this announcement should be made as early as possible, but I could not undertake to be able to give a definite answer in a fortnight's time.

Mr. Lunn

I will put a question down.
