HC Deb 06 July 1938 vol 338 c389
77. Mr. Leach

asked the Minister of Health whether any official tests have been made by, or any reports submitted to, his Department upon the relative merits of vitaminised margarine as a dietetic alternative to butter; and whether he can make a statement on the matter?

Mr. Bernays

No official tests have been carried out, but references to this matter are contained in the report of the Advisory Committee on Nutrition, which I will send to the hon. Member. These would indicate that margarine can be made the equivalent of butter as regard vitamin content.

Mr. Leach

If that be true, why are the fighting forces abandoning margarine for butter?
