HC Deb 24 February 1938 vol 332 c545
69. Mr. W. Joseph Stewart

asked the Minister of Health the number of old age pensioners in the administrative County of Durham who are in receipt of Poor Law relief, and the cost to the ratepayers in the county for this purpose each year since 1930?

Sir K. Wood

On 1st January, 1938, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 10,315 old age pensioners in the administrative County of Durham who were in receipt of poor relief. As regards the last part of the question, the returns received in my Department do not distinguish the cost of poor relief to old age pensioners.
