HC Deb 24 February 1938 vol 332 c552
91. Mr. Cassells

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether housing costs remain static at the present date as compared with June, 1937; and what steps are being taken to control such rising costs?

The Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. Wedderburn)

While the average cost of houses fluctuates slightly from month to month, the general level of costs remains substantially unchanged as compared with June, 1937. In reply to the latter part of the question, steps have been and are being taken to increase the supplies of labour and material, which is, I believe, the most effective method of dealing with the position.
