HC Deb 22 February 1938 vol 332 c168
26. Mr. Robert Gibson

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is now in a position to say when negotiations will take place with the Norwegian Government for the modification of the trade agreement, particularly regarding the placing of a restriction on the importation of Norwegian herring; and whether he has any statement to make regarding the Government's policy on the question of such imports?

Mr. Stanley

I am not in a position to say when negotiations may take place for the modification of the Trade Agreement with Norway; but I can assure the hon. and learned Member that the representations which have been received regarding the importation of Norwegian herring will be borne in mind in any such negotiations.

Mr. Gibson

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind the fact that this is a matter of very great consequence and importance in Scotland?

Mr. Stanley

Yes, Sir, I will certainly bear it in mind. Even if I did not, I do not suppose I should ever be allowed to forget it.
