§ 26. Mr. Robert Gibsonasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is now in a position to say when negotiations will take place with the Norwegian Government for the modification of the trade agreement, particularly regarding the placing of a restriction on the importation of Norwegian herring; and whether he has any statement to make regarding the Government's policy on the question of such imports?
Mr. StanleyI am not in a position to say when negotiations may take place for the modification of the Trade Agreement with Norway; but I can assure the hon. and learned Member that the representations which have been received regarding the importation of Norwegian herring will be borne in mind in any such negotiations.
§ Mr. GibsonWill the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind the fact that this is a matter of very great consequence and importance in Scotland?
Mr. StanleyYes, Sir, I will certainly bear it in mind. Even if I did not, I do not suppose I should ever be allowed to forget it.
