HC Deb 21 February 1938 vol 332 cc32-3
65. Mr. E. Smith

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he is aware of the conditions of the workpeople in the Euxton area and of the lack of transport and other essentials and amenities; and what steps are being taken to improve the situation?

Sir P. Sassoon

The conditions of the workpeople employed in the construction of the Royal Ordnance Factory at Euxton, Chorley, are constantly under review by my Department. Canteens, recreation rooms and shelters are provided by the contractor. A railway station has recently been opened on the site and there are omnibus services from the neighbouring towns. I am not aware of any grounds for complaint, but if the hon. Member can give me any particulars of unsatisfactory conditions, I will have the matter looked into immediately.
