HC Deb 21 February 1938 vol 332 cc35-6
73. Mr. R. Gibson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many applications were made for licences for the Val D'or Restaurant, Dundee, for 18th January, 1937; who made the applications; and on what representations the licences were granted?

The Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. Wedderburn)

I understand that a special permission in connection with a dinner held on 18th January, 1938, at the restaurant in question was granted by members of the licensing court on the application of a licence-holder under Section 40 of the Licensing (Scotland) Act, 1903. The disposal of such applications is entirely a matter for members of the court in accordance with the statutory provisions, and my right hon. Friend has no information as to the details of individual applications.

Mr. Gibson

Where the licence is desired for the supply of a society or association, is it the practice to have in writing the authority of such society or association before the licence is granted?

Mr. Wedderburn

It is a matter for the local licensing authority. Persons who apply must be licence holders.
