§ 73. Mr. R. Gibsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many applications were made for licences for the Val D'or Restaurant, Dundee, for 18th January, 1937; who made the applications; and on what representations the licences were granted?
The Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. Wedderburn)I understand that a special permission in connection with a dinner held on 18th January, 1938, at the restaurant in question was granted by members of the licensing court on the application of a licence-holder under Section 40 of the Licensing (Scotland) Act, 36 1903. The disposal of such applications is entirely a matter for members of the court in accordance with the statutory provisions, and my right hon. Friend has no information as to the details of individual applications.
§ Mr. GibsonWhere the licence is desired for the supply of a society or association, is it the practice to have in writing the authority of such society or association before the licence is granted?
Mr. WedderburnIt is a matter for the local licensing authority. Persons who apply must be licence holders.
